Men’s tennis garners postseason awards

WALESKA, Ga.— The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) unveiled its postseason league honors Thursday evening, and a pair of Montreat men's tennis student-athletes found themselves among the award winners. Daniel Garcia Estrabot claimed a spot on the All-AAC Second Team, while Youssef Idboufous garnered AAC All-Freshman Team recognition.

Garcia Estrabot finished the 2025 regular season with the squad's second-best singles record at 6-10, doing so almost exclusively on the top two courts. The Almeria, Spain native went 1-2 at No. 1 and 4-6 at No. 2, regularly facing off against the opposition's top talent. A fixture in doubles play as well, Garcia Estrabot went 5-9 overall, including 1-1 when slotted in the highest pairing.

Despite being just a freshman, Idboufous notched the program's best record in singles play this year. A native of Casablanca, Morocco, Idboufous owned an 8-8 record, including a 5-4 record at No. 3 and a 2-0 record at No. 4. The Cavalier newcomer also secured five wins in 15 doubles matches.

The all-conference awards were voted on and selected by the men's tennis coaches of the AAC.

In addition to the on-court accolades, a trio of Cavs landed on the AAC All-Academic Team. Nick Abramov, Luke Simpson and Ben Smith received the recognition for their strong work in the classroom. Smith also appeared on the AAC Champions of Character Team.

To qualify for the AAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore academic status and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. Each institution in the league also received one spot on the AAC Champions of Character Team, and the recipients were chosen by each program's head coach.
