WALESKA, Ga.— According to a release from the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) office Monday afternoon, both
Daniel Garcia Estrabot and
Chiharu Ito garnered Player of the Week recognition. Garcia Estrabot claimed the men's honor for the first time in his career, while Ito did the same on the women's side. Both nods marked the initial AAC weekly awards for the Cavaliers this season.
A native of Almeria, Spain, Garcia Estrabot went a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles action. The freshman played on the No. 2 courts in the squad's 6-1 win over Columbia College last Tuesday. Meanwhile, on Saturday, Garcia Estrabot moved up to the top spots as he aided the team to a 7-0 triumph at Truett McConnell University. He dropped a total of just 10 games across his four matches played.
Ito helped Montreat women's tennis go 2-1 as a team last week by never dropping a singles or doubles match. A native of Shizuoka, Japan, Ito went 6-0 in all her singles and doubles bouts. Playing exclusively in the No. 1 position, Ito lost a total of one or fewer games in four of her six battles. The Cavs picked up wins over Brenau University (W 5-2) and Truett McConnell University (W 6-1) last week, while the sole defeat came at the hands of Columbia College (L 4-3).
