JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.— Back on Aug. 24, the Montreat clay target shooting team had its first competition of the year at the Unaka Rod and Gun Club in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Cavaliers were anxious to begin their competitive season, and the results did not disappoint.
Jacob VanNess emerged as the High Over All Champion with a perfect 100 (50 straight in skeet and trap).
Brady Cox was the American Trap Event Champion with 50 straight.
Malia Beasley tied for first in American Skeet with her initial 50 straight, but after the shoot off, she landed on the podium in third place.
Trinity Morris,
Maggie McCall and
Gabe Overbay were class champions, and
Autumn Wall and
Jacob Eifler enjoyed their first 25 straights in competition.
"This competition was a good warm-up for our competitive season and bodes well for what's to come," said head coach
Hub Powell.
The Montreat clay target shooting team's next event was an internal team qualifying shoot on Sept. 4 at Iron Mountain Sporting Clays in Kodak, Tenn.
