BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.— Coming off a strong start to the 2025-26 campaign this past fall, the Montreat College clay target shooting team is amped up and ready for the spring portion of its schedule. In addition to weekly internal competitions, the Cavaliers also have four major tournaments lined up over the next few months.
Hoping to build upon their seventh-place showing at the ACUI Fall Lower East Coast Conference Championships, the Cavs head to Savannah, Ga. in early February for the ACUI Spring Lower East Coast Conference Championships. That major tournament is currently slated for Feb. 6-8.
Mid-March welcomes in the premier event on Montreat's schedule: the ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships. From the 15
th through the 21
st, the Cavaliers will take on the nation's top collegiate clay target shooting programs in San Antonio. Last season, the Cavs concluded seventh out of 59 squads at the national event.
April and May feature external competitions as well, with the two events landing on consecutive Saturdays. On April 25, Montreat returns to familiar territory at the Unaka Rod & Gun Club in Johnson City, Tenn. Later, on May 2, the Cavaliers visit Bostic, N.C. for the North Carolina Hall of Fame Shoot.
Along with their major tournaments, the Cavs plan to stay sharp and keep the competitive juices flowing with weekly internal events.
