MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat volleyball team made plenty of headlines during the 2024 regular season. Not only did the Cavaliers get off to their best in at least 20 years, but senior
Kamryn Wolf reached numerous marks that aided the squad to a 9-12 (9-11 AAC) record during an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) only schedule.
While the season didn't begin until Sept. 12, the Cavs wasted no time getting off to a tremendous start. Montreat won its initial five matches of the year for the first time since at least 2004. Those victories proved to be full of highlights, including the squad's first win over Bryan College since 2019.
Wolf stole the show during those victories as well. On Sept. 17, the Lambertville, Mich. native notched 29 kills at Truett McConnell University, the most by a Cavalier in a single match since Nov. 1, 2007. Wolf also reached the 1,000 career kills mark during the Sept. 20 win against Bryan. For her remarkable performances, Wolf claimed two AAC Attacker of the Week nods and one NAIA Attacker of the Week honor. The national weekly award was the first for a Montreat volleyball player since 2016.
Elizabeth Harrington also registered AAC Defender of the Week recognition during the stretch.
After suffering their first defeat on Sept. 24, the Cavs saw Hurricane Helene significantly impact their schedule. All nonconference matches were canceled, and the remaining 14 AAC contests became road trips. Fortunately, the Montreat volleyball program was able to continue with the season in its modified format.
Following two-plus weeks off, the Cavaliers made their return to competition at St. Andrews University on Oct. 12. There, they picked up a three-set sweep before recording another swift victory three days later at TMU. With the wins, Montreat climbed to 7-1 (7-1 AAC) on the year.
While a significant injury shifted the potential final destination, the squad showed resiliency in the face of adversity. The Cavaliers picked up two more conference victories during the regular season as they clinched the No. 9 seed in the 2024 AAC Tournament. Montreat's season eventually came to an end during the opening round in Kingsport, Tenn.
Wolf's year was cut short, but her impact proved to be so significant that she still captured First Team All-AAC honors.
Reese Davis garnered a spot on the AAC Champions of Character Team, while the Cavs placed 11 on the AAC All-Academic Team and three on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team. Meanwhile, nine met the necessary standards to be Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
