Women’s Tennis Coasts Past No. 24 Brenau

GAINESVILLE, Ga.— Playing its fourth match in six days, the Montreat women's tennis team showed no signs of fatigue as it quickly took down the No. 24-ranked Brenau University Golden Tigers on Monday afternoon, 7-0. The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory in Gainesville, Ga. moved the Cavaliers' win streak to six matches as the Cavs now sit at 9-5 (6-0 AAC) on the season.

It took the Cavaliers just 34 minutes to claim the doubles point at Brenau. Stephanie Petit and Carol Reis needed less than a half-hour to cruise to a 6-1 win at No. 1, and Sofia Hernandez Mera teamed up with Valerie Quiceno Ibarguen to win by the same score at No. 2. Meanwhile, in the No. 3 doubles matchup, Nicole Bueno and Sofia Rojas Osorio closed out a clean sweep of doubles action with their 7-6 (7-3) triumph.

Montreat's dominance on the court extended to singles action as well. Five of the six singles matches ended within 10 minutes of each other, all in Montreat's favor. Nicole Bueno (6-0, 6-1), Mariam Bayatyan (6-1, 6-0) and Reis (6-1, 6-0) each dropped just a single game en route to straight-sets wins at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 4, respectively.

Petit (6-1, 6-1) and Vaishnavi Venkatesh (6-1, 6-2) were just as effective in singles play, losing a total of two and three games, respectively, in their decisive victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Quiceno Ibarguen put the cherry on top of Montreat's 7-0 win, seizing a 6-3, 6-3 straight-sets victory in the No. 1 spot.

The Montreat women's tennis team now turns its attention to Wednesday when it hosts Milligan University. Doubles play begins at 1:00 p.m. in Montreat, N.C.
