Women’s Tennis Beats Reinhardt for Second Straight AAC Win

WALESKA, Ga.— The Montreat women's tennis team captured an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory over the Reinhardt University Eagles on the road Thursday afternoon. With the dominant 6-1 win, the Cavaliers moved to 5-5 on the season and 2-0 in AAC competition.

The sixth-ranked Cavs rolled through doubles play, capturing all three matchups to go up 1-0 in the match. Stephanie Petit and Carol Reis shutout their opposition 6-0 in the first slot, while Nicole Bueno and Sofia Rojas Osorio claimed a 6-2 triumph at No. 3. In the second spot, Valerie Quiceno Ibarguen and Sofia Hernandez Mera battled to a hard-fought 7-6 win for the doubles sweep.

In singles play, the Cavaliers won each of the top five matches in straight sets. Petit, the number two-ranked player in the NAIA, dropped just two games as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win, and Quiceno Ibarguen, who is ranked 10th in the country, captured all but three games (6-0, 6-3) in her victory.

None of the other three Cavaliers surrendered more than four games to their opponents from No. 3 through No. 5 as Vaishnavi Venkatesh (6-2, 6-2), Bueno (6-1, 6-2) and Mariam Bayatyan (6-0, 6-3) all notched triumphs in their respective matchups. Annika Beckmann nearly defeated her opponent in the final singles slot.

Women's tennis looks to remain perfect in conference play when the team travels to No. 11 Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday. First serve is expected at 2:00 p.m.
