JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.— The Montreat College women's golf team played a pair of rounds at Johnson City Country Club on Monday and Tuesday as it competed against five other programs at the East Tennessee Collegiate, hosted by Milligan University. Following 36 holes of golf, the Cavaliers concluded the event in fifth place as a squad.
Overall, the Cavs tallied scores of 356 and 360 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Montreat's combined total of 716 landed the team 10 strokes back of Spartanburg Methodist College and 50 shots better than Bryan College.
Reese Coltrane entered the clubhouse on Monday as the Cavaliers' top scorer. Utilizing six pars and one birdie, Coltrane turned in an 84 to enter the clubhouse tied for 19
th individually.
Sara Rothrock and
Hannah Stewart each shot an 89 during their initial 18 holes of play, leaving them tied for 25
th. The former tallied seven pars throughout her round, while the latter notched six pars.
Two other Cavs registered a birdie on day one.
Abbey Coyle closed out Montreat's scoring account on Monday with a 94. The Harrison, Ohio native's four pars and one birdie enabled her to conclude the afternoon in 28
th. Meanwhile,
Chloe Peters totaled three pars and a birdie. Peters needed 101 strokes to enter the clubhouse tied for 32
nd overall.
The Cavaliers' five golfers finished round two in the same order in which they wrapped up round one. Coltrane delivered an 83, this time capitalizing on nine pars to achieve her score. With her combined tally of 167, Coltrane ultimately tied for 19
th out of 34 finishers.
Rothrock and Stewart tied for 24
th overall as they turned in identical scores for the second day in a row. While Rothrock carded seven pars and Stewart snagged four pars, both Cavs shot a 92 during their final 18 holes and a 181 across the full 36-hole slate.
Not far off from Rothrock and Stewart, Coyle recorded two pars en route to a final round score of 93. For the tournament, Coyle placed in a tie for 27
th with her two-day mark of 187. Peters rounded out the action for the Cavaliers with four pars, a 98 and a tie for 31
st thanks to her 199 final tally.
"The ladies' scores are continuing in the right direction," said head coach
John Sullivan. "We will keep working on things that need improvement moving forward."

Montreat heads next to Cherokee National Golf Club in Gaffney, S.C. on Oct. 13-14 for the Pioneers Fall Invitational, hosted by Spartanburg Methodist College.
