McCue-Long tabbed as interim head softball coach

MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat College Athletic Department announced the promotion of Kelsey McCue-Long to interim head softball coach earlier this month. McCue-Long immediately begins her duties in taking over for the previous head coach, Corbin Weeks, who recently announced his resignation to accept a job closer to home.

"We would like to thank Coach Weeks for his contributions to Montreat College the past six years," said Director of Athletics Garrett Jones. "We are equally as grateful and excited Coach McCue-Long has accepted this interim role. Coach McCue-Long has played an integral role in the program's recent success and is well-positioned to carry forward the momentum, energy and mission of our softball program. Our athletic leadership team is excited to identify the next leader of our softball program as a nationwide search has already been launched."

No stranger to the softball program, McCue-Long spent the previous two seasons serving as the Cavaliers' pitching coach. With McCue-Long's tutelage, the Montreat pitching staff saw massive improvement. After registering a team ERA of 4.75 during the year prior to her arrival, the Cavs recorded a 3.64 ERA in 2024 and a 2.99 ERA in 2025. The Broad Top City, Penn. native also coached the NAIA's 2025 saves leader, Victoria Alcantar, last season.

In addition to achieving 30-plus wins in back-to-back years, McCue-Long helped Montreat snag a 7-3 victory over No. 21 Midland University this past spring. The triumph proved to be the Cavaliers' first over a ranked foe since 2018.

"I'm honored to continue working with our dedicated staff and talented student-athletes as we strive toward an AAC championship," McCue-Long shared. "We remain committed to the vision set by Coach Weeks over the past two years, with a continued focus on developing our players both on and off the field."

Prior to working at Montreat, McCue-Long spent five months as Spartanburg Methodist College's pitching coach.

McCue-Long also holds coaching experience at the prep level in Simpsonville, S.C. From 2021 through 2023, she served as Woodmont High School's varsity assistant coach and junior varsity head coach. During that same time frame, she acted as the director, owner and 18U head coach of Elite Diamondcats, where she helped more than 15 players land spots at schools across the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA. McCue-Long spent 2019-2021 coaching at Ralph Chandler Middle School as well.

A 2014 graduate of Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Penn., McCue-Long played softball for two years while earning her Associate of Science in Nursing. She is currently working on her Bachelor of Science in Sports Management at Spartanburg Methodist.

McCue-Long lives with her husband, Scott, and their two children.
