Women’s golf takes eighth at AAC Fall Preview

ACWORTH, Ga.— The Montreat College women's golf squad wrapped up the autumn portion of its 2025-26 campaign on Monday and Tuesday with the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Fall Preview at Governors Towne Club. After combining for a three-round team score of 1,087, the Cavaliers captured eighth out of 11 programs.

Monday's action featured 36 holes of golf. As a squad, the Cavs needed 377 shots to get through their opening round before shaving 14 strokes off that initial total during their latter 18 holes. Reese Coltrane paced Montreat on Monday, carding a 90 and an 83 thanks to her team-best 13 pars.

A trio of Cavaliers proved consistent through the first day of play. Tallying seven pars across 36 holes, Hannah Stewart turned in a 96 before eliminating three strokes off her second-round score. Abbey Coyle utilized six pars and a birdie to deliver efforts of 96 and 95, respectively. Meanwhile, Chloe Peters shot a 95 and followed it up with a 97. In total, Peters notched eight pars and one birdie.

Sara Rothrock made the biggest improvement between her first and second rounds. The Rutherfordton, N.C. native registered one par and a 104 through her initial 18, but she bounced back with five pars and a 92, the team's second-best score of the round, across her latter 18 holes.

Montreat saved its best for last, erasing 30 strokes off its opening round to turn in a 347 on the final day of competition. Coltrane carded 10 pars across her final 18 holes, shooting an 85 and bringing her three-round total to 258. The junior tied for 30th out of 64 golfers on the individual leaderboard.

Three other Cavs shot similar scores to Coltrane during Tuesday's action. Both Stewart and Coyle needed 87 strokes to cap off their last rounds. The former capitalized on nine pars, and the latter recorded seven. Stewart's two-day showing of 276 resulted in a tie for 45th overall, while Coyle tied for 47th behind her 278-shot tournament. Rothrock continued her improvement from round-to-round, utilizing four pars and a birdie to garner an 88. With her full score of 284, Rothrock concluded the event in 52nd.

A native of Pinehurst, N.C., Peters closed out the tournament with a 102. Ultimately, Peters placed 57th with her two-day, three-round total of 294.

"Lots of positives to take away this week," said head coach John Sullivan. "This is the hardest course we play all year, and the ladies showed tremendous fortitude to battle back and play so well on day two. We're looking forward to the spring."
