EMORY, Va.— Montreat's women's wrestling team competed in the Wasps Open, hosted by Emory and Henry University, on Friday. The Cavaliers sent five wrestlers to compete across four different weight classes.
Annastasia Skoda wrestled at 131 today and went 3-2. She lost her first match via tech fall before winning her next three bouts in three different forms. She won via a decision, a tech fall and a pin, respectively. She was then pinned in her last effort of the day in 1:03.
At 145,
Uriah Peters-Gutierrez also went 3-2 during her tournament. She was on the short end of a 5-1 decision in her initial match. Just like her teammate Skoda, she crawled back with three straight wins. Her preferred method of victory was a pin, notching three in a row. Peters-Guitierrez concluded her day with a loss from a pin after 1:51.
Morgan Repasky won her opening bout with a pin after 1:12. She then lost her next two matches to go 1-2 on the day wrestling at 103.
In the 207-lb weight class,
Audrey Gribble won her first bout via a 2-0 decision. Gribble then dropped her next two matches from pins in under a minute to go 1-2 at the open.
"I'm really proud of the way our team competed today. It is by far the best wrestling I've seen from them," said head coach
Koby Reyes. "I'm excited for them to get some time with family, recover and get back ready to work at the end of this month."
