PARK CITY, Kan. — The Montreat College women's wrestling team sent a pair of student-athletes to the 2026 NAIA Women's Wrestling Championships on Friday, marking the first time in program history in which multiple Cavaliers competed at nationals. Morgan Repasky and
Daniela Espinal went 0-2 in their respective brackets.
With no team score accumulated, the Cavs joined four other programs in 34
th out of 37 total squads.
Repasky made the deepest tournament run of the Montreat duo thanks to a pair of byes. Seeded 20
th in the 103-lb weight class, the sophomore started her postseason journey with a first-round bye. In the second round, Repasky nearly went the distance but ultimately suffered a pin to the No. 4 seed in 5:50. The Marion, N.C. native then garnered a bye in the consolation bracket's second round before meeting up with the 12
th-seeded participant. There, Repasky dropped her bout via pin in 2:53. With her 0-2 record on Friday, Repasky's tournament run officially ended.
Wrestling as the No. 26 seed at 124, Espinal faced off against the No. 7 seed in the opening round. A native of Brooksville, Fla., Espinal battled valiantly before losing via a 13-2 tech fall in 5:28. The freshman received a bye in the first round of the consolation bracket, but an upset forced her to take on the 8
th-seeded competitor during the ensuing round. Espinal was pinned in 2:08, closing out her effort at the national championships with a 0-2 record.
"Our team competed hard today," said Head Coach
Koby Reyes. "It's a great achievement to have two national qualifiers for the first time in program history. I'm proud of the women and the steps our program has taken this season. The future is bright."
