MARIETTA, Ga.— Montreat's women's wrestling team traveled to Life University on Saturday for its second open tournament of the 2024-25 season. The Eagle Madness Open played host to wrestlers from 12 different teams, as well as a handful of unattached competitors.
Nicole Lewis finished eighth competing in the 160-lb weight class. All four of her matches ended with pins. She opened her tournament run with a loss in the first round. Then, in the consolation bracket, Lewis won her next two in a row by pinning both opponents in less than a minute. In her last match, Lewis was pinned after four minutes.
Shelby Sherman went 1-2 on the day competing in the 124-lb weight class. She received a bye in the first round and won her initial bout via an 8-5 decision. She then lost her next two matches by 10-0 tech falls.
Uriah Peters-Gutierrez also finished with a record of 1-2 in the competition. She lost her initial match at 145 after a 12-2 tech fall. Following her first-round bye in the consolation bracket, she capitalized with a pin in under a minute to stay alive. Peters-Gutierrez fell in her final bout when she was pinned after 4:11.
"The Eagle Madness Open had some great wrestlers participating today, and our ladies competed well," said head coach
Koby Reyes. "I'm proud of the progress we're making as a team, and I'm excited to continue working."

The Cavs look forward to their next action on Saturday, Nov. 16. They will travel to Lynchburg, Va. for the Liberty University Duals.
