BEREA, Ohio— Montreat's women's wrestling team traveled north to the Cleveland area on Sunday to compete at the Baldwin Wallace Open. The tournament consisted of six teams. The Cavs finished fourth overall going 13-21 as a team on the day.
Morgan Repasky topped the 103-lb division. She beat the same wrestler twice to take the bracket. Both victories were via pin. The first pin was in 2:33 and the second was nearly two minutes faster in 35 seconds.
Chloe Carver took second in the 110-lb weight class. She went 2-1 on the day, winning her first bout by a forfeit. She then won by decision, 7-0, in her next match before losing in the first-place match by a fall after 1:26.
Nicole Lewis also secured the silver in her weight class, doing so at 160. Her bracket only consisted of three wrestlers. Therefore, after the round robin styled competition, she finished 1-1 on the day. She was pinned in 37 seconds in her opening bout before pinning her opponent in the next match in 2:04.
Another Cav to finish second was
Audrey Gribble. She also finished with a 1-1 record on the day. After a bye in the bracket, her opening match 4-1 decision win sent her to the first-place match. In the concluding bout, she was pinned after 1:14.
Annastasia Skoda captured the bronze in the 131-lb class. Skoda concluded her day with a 2-1 record. After dropping her first match by a 10-0 tech fall, she answered back with a pin in less than a minute to move on to the third-place match. There, she won by a 10-5 decision.
Nevaeh Perkins finished fourth at 117. The Cav went 1-2 and lost both of her bouts from pins. Her lone win was over her Cavalier teammate,
Aiyana Bryant, by a 10-0 tech fall.
"It was great to see some new competition this weekend," said head coach
Koby Reyes. "We had some breakthrough moments and identified some new areas for us to work through. Overall, I'm proud of the team and excited to help them continue to adapt."
