CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.— The Montreat men's tennis team fell in a close Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament championship game Saturday afternoon at the Champions Club Tennis Complex in Chattanooga. In a battle against the No. 3-ranked and No. 1-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan University Bulldogs, the No. 9-ranked and No. 2-seeded Cavaliers dropped a 4-0 matchup to end the conference campaign as the regular season and tournament runner up.
Tennessee Wesleyan, who holds a perfect 20-0 record following its tournament run, used the doubles point to go up 1-0 heading into singles play after the Cavs collected a win at No. 2, but the Bulldogs captured the matches at No. 1 and No. 3.
In singles play, TWU completed its sweep of the Cavaliers with victories in the top two slots before a three-set win at No. 6 clinched the championship. With the defeat, Montreat moved to 11-9 on the season.
Men's tennis now looks toward the NAIA National Tournament, which is scheduled to take place from May 17 to May 21 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
