JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — The Montreat College men's golf team broke a pair of program records on Monday and Tuesday when competing at the East Tennessee Collegiate at Johnson City Country Club in Johnson City, Tenn. After starting Milligan University's annual fall tournament with a single-round program-record score of 287 on day one, the Cavaliers came right back on day two to cap off the event with a two-round program-record score of 576. The even-par team total proved good enough for fourth out of 14 squads.
 
On the event leaderboard, the Cavs finished five strokes ahead of the University of South Carolina-Sumter and three shots behind the University of Pikeville. Roane State Community College won the East Tennessee College with a 14-under-par 562.
 
Montreat's first broken record occurred on Monday when the team's four scorers combined for a 1-under-par 287. Colton Clevenger led the way when he carded his best 18-hole tournament round as a Cavalier. The Hendersonville, N.C., native notched a 3-under-par 69 during round one thanks to six birdies. Alex Murphy also turned in a below-par score, shooting a 1-under 71 courtesy of three birdies and just two bogeys.
 
Cooper Crump contributed to the record-setting total, carding four birdies on the front nine to enter the clubhouse with a 1-over-par 73. Austin Lineberger closed out the Cavs' scoring group on day one with two birdies and a 2-over-par 74.
 
The same Montreat foursome added to the squad's tally on Tuesday, uniting for a 289, which matched the previous single-round program record. Murphy replicated his day one outing, utilizing three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars to deliver another 1-under-par 71. Lineberger birdied the 16^th and 17^th holes en route to an even-par 72.
 
Clevenger registered a pair of birdies on both the front and back nine, leading to a 73 during his final 18 holes. Crump totaled a 73 for the second straight day, this time scratching three birdies onto his scoreboard.
 
Both Murphy and Clevenger tied for sixth out of 75 golfers thanks to their combined efforts of 142. Crump and Lineberger each totaled a 146, good for a tie in 19^th. Kenan Kim, who competed as an individual on Monday and Tuesday, finished 31^st overall with his 148. Jaxon Henegar wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 48^th, as he entered the clubhouse with a 36-hole performance of 154.
 
"The scoreboard doesn't always tell the whole story," said Head Coach John Sullivan. "If we keep trusting the process, keep competing for one another and keep getting better, the scores are showing what this team is capable of. The wins will come when we stay committed, stay together and finish strong."
