SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — The Montreat College men's golf team returned to action Monday and Tuesday, competing at the Stitch Golf Sandhills Flyers Fall Intercollegiate at Longleaf Golf and Family Club in Southern Pines, N.C. The two-round, 36-hole event featured 11 teams, with the Cavaliers' first team finishing eighth with a two-round score of 609. Montreat's second unit placed ninth with a 640.
Action got underway on Monday with the Cavs completing the opening round. Montreat's top four scorers on the first squad combined for a team total of 298 strokes.
Colton Clevenger paced the Cavaliers at even par with a 72 after recording three birdies. Cooper Crump followed at 1-over-par with a 73 and three birdies of his own. Kenan Kim added a 76, highlighted by one birdie, while Alex Murphy rounded out Montreat's scoring four with a 77 and one birdie.
The Cavs also fielded a second team at the event, led by Austin Lineberger on the opening day. Lineberger recorded three birdies en route to a 75. Britton Johnson followed with a 77 that included one birdie. Landon Cook posted an 80 with one birdie, while Luke Winter rounded out the group with an 84 after recording three birdies. Overall, the second unit finished with a 316 through the opening round.
Murphy and Jaxon Henegar paced the Cavaliers' top squad on day two, each posting a 77. Murphy recorded two birdies, while Henegar provided a highlight on hole 16 by sinking a lengthy eagle putt. Clevenger finished just behind his teammates with a 78 and one birdie, while Crump rounded out Montreat's scoring four with a 79 that included two birdies.
Lineberger maintained his strong play for the Cavs' second team, posting the lowest score among both Montreat squads Tuesday with a 76, highlighted by 14 pars over 18 holes. Winter trimmed three strokes from his opening-round score, finishing with an 81 and one birdie, while Johnson carded an 83 with a birdie of his own. Ham Hohman rounded out the Cavaliers' second-team scoring with an 84 and one birdie.
Montreat's first team posted a 311 on day two, bringing its two-round total to 609 and placing eighth among 11 teams. The Cavaliers' second unit recorded a 324 Tuesday to finish with a 640 and place ninth.
After 36 holes, Clevenger led the Cavaliers with a 150, finishing tied for 19th among 59 golfers. Lineberger followed in 21st with a 151, while Crump carded a 152, good enough for a tie in 22nd. Murphy posted a 154, tying in 29th, followed by Henegar with a 155 for T-32nd.
Kim finished 37th with a 158, while Johnson posted a 160 to tie for 40th. Winter recorded a 165, tying in 47th, followed by Cook at 167 (T-51st) and Hohman at 169 (T-54th).

The Montreat College men's golf team returns to action on Sept. 28-29 at the East Tennessee Collegiate in Johnson City, Tenn. Hosted by Milligan University, the tournament will be held at Johnson City Country Club.
