DURHAM, N.C. — The Montreat College men's and women's track & field teams sent five athletes to Durham, N.C. for the Duke Twilight meet on Sunday evening, highlighted by a pair of NAIA 'A' standards. Across six events, the Cavaliers produced four personal bests, delivering a strong showing against a field featuring NCAA Division I and professional competition.
Ryan Stade delivered a breakthrough in the men's 5000m, cutting more than 30 seconds off his previous personal and program record with a 13:53.97 to place sixth in a 32-athlete field. With his time, he became the first Cavalier to break the 14-minute barrier. The Tabor College transfer also cleared the NAIA 'A' standard, posting the fastest mark in the association this season and the 15th fastest in NAIA history.
Heather Murphy followed with an impressive performance in the women's 5000m, setting a new personal and program record of 16:12.77, trimming nearly 13 seconds off her previous best to finish 11th in a 31-runner field. Murphy met the 'A' standard for the second time this season and now owns the second- and third- fastest marks in the country this year, along with the 12th-quickest time in association history.
In the men's 200m, Cameron Rice recorded a personal best, lowering his previous time by 0.14 seconds with a 21.84 to finish 20th. Rice also competed in the men's 100m dash, placing 32nd in 10.91 seconds.
In the women's 1500m, Macy Parks clocked a personal best of 4:40.44, improving her previous mark by nearly five seconds. Jordan Pippin competed in the men's 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 57.11 seconds.
