NEW ORLEANS — According to a release from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday afternoon,
Nathan Cremin joins former Montreat College track & field star Dustin Blevins as the only Cavaliers to ever be selected as the organization's Men's NAIA National Outdoor Athlete of the Week. After garnering the same national recognition twice during the indoor season, Cremin has now added the outdoor version of the honor to his rapidly growing list of accolades.
Running at the Wake Forest Invitational on Thursday night, Cremin claimed victory in his 800m invite section. Against eight NCAA Division I and II athletes, Cremin paced the group to the tune of a 1:46.45 race. The junior's effort proved to be the fastest NAIA men's outdoor 800m showing since before he was born, bested only by a Taylor University runner in 1997 (1:46.17). Standing as the second-fastest time in the association's history, Cremin's mark also comfortably met the NAIA 'A' standard and broke the school record.
