Historic DMR performance highlights day one at nationals for Montreat

GAINESVILLE, Fla.— The Montreat College men's and women's track & field teams opened competition on Thursday at the 2026 NAIA Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships in Gainesville, Fla. With only one preliminary event on the schedule for the Cavaliers on day one, the squad delivered a historic showing in the men's 4000m distance medley relay (DMR).

The quartet of Nathan Cremin, Cameron Rice, Hugo Petat-Hemono and Ryan Stade delivered a record-setting performance on Thursday afternoon, posting a time of 9:54.64 in the DMR to win the opening heat. The Cavs stand as the fourth-fastest DMR unit in NAIA men's indoor track & field history, as well as the NAIA's sixth-fastest time ever recorded in the event.

In addition to the historic showing, the performance also set a new Montreat school record, shattering the previous mark by nearly five seconds. With the result, the Cavaliers qualified for Saturday's men's DMR finals, entering the race with the top-seeded time in the field.
