NEW ORLEANS— The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) selected Montreat College's
Nathan Cremin as its Men's NAIA National Athlete of the Week for the second straight instance. According to the organization's announcement on Monday afternoon, Cremin went back-to-back after delivering another historic performance.
A native of Limerick, Ireland, Cremin ran in a trio of events last Thursday and Friday at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Gardner-Webb University transfer not only set a pair of program records during the meet, but he also set an NAIA record as well.
With the fastest 1000m time in NAIA men's indoor track & field history, Cremin blazed a path right to the AAC's event title. His 2:21.36 performance broke the national record by 1.73 seconds, shattering a mark that stood for 20 years. Additionally, Cremin took second and seized All-Conference honors for his runner-up 600m time of 1:17.67. The mark stands as the sixth-quickest in NAIA history and the second-fastest this season.
Cremin also ran the final leg of the distance medley relay, aiding the Cavaliers to a fourth-place finish with a 10:46.80 showing. For his efforts contributing 23 points to the Cavs' runner-up team placement, Cremin captured AAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year recognition.
