EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The Montreat College clay target shooting squad spent Friday and Saturday in Edgefield, S.C. for the annual Clemson Palmetto Invitational at the NWTF Palmetto Shooting Complex. Along with four individual titles and one runner-up placement, the Cavaliers grabbed a second-place finish out of five programs on the team high overall leaderboard.
Clemson University, Emmanuel University, Charleston Southern University and Georgia Southern University joined the Cavs in competing last weekend. Facing some of the best programs in the region and the country, Montreat proved its mettle.
Ahren Muehleisen and
Denny Muehleisen swept the men's and women's trap shooting titles, respectively. Meanwhile,
Gabe Overbay took the championship in the men's skeet shooting discipline.
Madison Mishio delivered a women's runner-up skeet shooting effort, but her total performance led to a greater recognition. Following a shoot-off with a competitor from the host institution, Mishio secured the women's high overall crown.
Jackson Switzer notched a personal best in the men's skeet shooting event, drilling 98 out of 100 targets. His showing helped contribute to the Cavaliers placing as runners-up on the team high overall leaderboard.
"It was an excellent tourney for our athletes, proving that we are in a strong position to do well at the national level this year," said Head Coach
Hub Powell. "Our shooters presented themselves very well by being encouraging and supportive of one another, even when some targets escaped our best efforts. Overall, I am very pleased with our results and equally proud of how our athletes represented the team, the College and the Lord."
The Montreat College clay target shooting team continues its 2026-27 season on Saturday, Oct. 10 with the Dixie Grand in Bostic, N.C.
