WALESKA, Ga.— For the first time in his Montreat College career,
Alex Murphy has claimed Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men's Golfer of the Week recognition. This marks the Cavaliers' first weekly honor since Atley Gabriel picked up the same nod on Oct. 16, 2023.
Murphy led the way for the Cavs during the squad's historic showing at the East Tennessee Collegiate last week. On Monday, Murphy aided the team to a program-best single-round score of 289. Just one day later, Montreat replicated its performance at Johnson City Country Club with another 289. As a result, the Cavaliers concluded the 36-hole event with a 578, their best two-round tournament score in program history. Overall, Montreat wrapped up the event in fifth place out of 14 squads.
Individually, Murphy shot an even-par 72 during his opening round before carding a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday. The Monroe, N.C. native notched nine birdies across 36 holes. Among a field of 70 golfers, Murphy's 142 registered a tie for 11
th on the leaderboard.
