Cycling announces upcoming mountain bike slate

MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat College cycling program is gearing up for its 2025 mountain bike season. With as many as five weekends on the docket this fall, the Cavaliers hope to build on the momentum of their 2024 inaugural season.

Later this month, the Cavs begin their campaign at fellow Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) institution Truett McConnell University. On Aug. 30-31, Montreat heads to Cleveland, Ga. for its season-opening action. Meanwhile, a trio of competitions fill the month of September and keep the Cavaliers busy.

A dual-hosted meet on Sept. 6-7 allows Montreat to remain close to home in Western North Carolina. Both Brevard College and Warren Wilson College welcome competitors to Zirconia, N.C. for the second mountain bike event of the year. Following a weekend off, Lindsey Wilson College puts on a dual conference meet from Sept. 20-21. The Cavs then go from central Kentucky back to North Carolina for the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (SECCC) Championships. Lees-McRae College hosts the dual conference and conference championship event in Banner Elk, N.C. during the final weekend of the month.

October only features one mountain bike event, but it stands as the biggest one of the year. From Oct. 9-12, Montreat and its fellow competitors travel to Powderhorn Mountain Resort in Mesa, Colo. for the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships. There, the Cavaliers look to improve upon their inaugural 14th-place finish from 2024.
