ANDERSON, S.C.— Montreat's men's track & field team competed in the Electric City Invitational held at Anderson University on Friday and Saturday. In the team standings, Montreat finished 12
th out of 18 collegiate teams.
The Cavs competed in 10 events with 15 entries. They sported three event debuts and four personal bests as well. Montreat also won an event while breaking a school record and achieving an NAIA national standard in the process.
In the 10k,
Ryan Stade won the race and clocked a time of 30:54.40. His effort destroyed the school record by over 40 seconds. Stade was also fast enough to achieve an NAIA 'B' standard.
Raymond English placed third in the 110m hurdles. His 15.70 time was 0.03 seconds from his personal best. However, a Cavalier who did set a new personal best in the event was
Drew Bryant. Although it was in the prelims and he did not compete in the finals, he still achieved a new career record with a 16.80-second effort.
Two Cavaliers participated in two different 5000m races. In the invitational race,
Rene Tamez finished fourth with a personal-best time of 15:27.94.
Hunter Smathers ran in the open race and finished third. Smathers' time of 16:14.60 was just 0.60 seconds away from tying his personal record.
The only Cavalier competing in a field event was Bryant in the long jump. He finished in sixth with a leap of 6.69m, which was a new career record for the junior.
Jordan Pippin finished seventh in the 400m hurdles. He was joined by English. Pippin clocked a 59.25 while English's 1:03.55 was good enough for 15
th in his event debut.
In his 3000m steeplechase debut,
Nathan Stamey was the lone Cav and finished eighth with a time of 10:09.12.

The next action for the men's track & field team is scheduled for next weekend at the Asheville Bulldog Invite. The event will be hosted by the UNC Asheville on April 11-12.
