JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.— Montreat's men's track & field team competed at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. The three-day meet started on Thursday and wrapped up on Saturday.
Montreat had five athletes achieve all-conference awards for placing in the top three in their respective events. The Cavs also recorded 26 scoring efforts for those finishing inside the top eight competitors in their events. In the team standings, Montreat tallied 123 points to finish third in the meet, just three points behind Reinhardt University. Milligan University won the conference title with 199 points.
On Thursday evening,
Ryan Stade won the 10k in style. He smashed his own school record with a time of 30:36.45. Not only did the Marysville, Kan. native break the school record, but he also achieved an NAIA 'B' standard with his all-conference effort.
Montreat finished second and third in the 1500m event. Stade racked up another All-AAC award with his second-place finish of 3:56.88. Just behind him,
Ethan Stamey finished third with an effort of 3:57.62. Both Cavaliers recorded new career bests in the race.
Wyatt Wilson received all-conference honors in the 5000m race walk on Friday. His efforts scored six points for the Cavaliers. He finished third with a time of 29:20.27.
Also on Friday,
Raymond English placed second in the 110m hurdles. His all-conference performance saw a school record time of 14.95 seconds and eight points added to the team standings.
In the long jump, freshman
Daishawn Barselou also placed second after a leap of 6.91m, a new personal best by 0.15m. His podium finish earned an All-AAC award in the event.
Saturday's lone all-conference award went to Stade in the 5000m. His second-place effort in the race gave him his third All-AAC nod during the meet. He finished with a time of 14:45.19. Stade finished his meet with a conference title in the 10k, three all-conference honors and the AAC Newcomer of the Year award.

The Cavaliers will take next weekend off. Their next action will be the following weekend where they plan to split up the squad and compete in two meets. The Cavs will be at the Music City Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt University, and the Aggie Classic, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University, on May 2-3.
