Men’s track & field competes at Asheville Bulldog Invite

ASHEVILLE, N.C.— The Montreat men's track & field team headed just down the road to the campus of UNC Asheville on Friday and Saturday for the Asheville Bulldog Invite. In their final tune-up before next week's outdoor conference meet, the Cavaliers picked up a trio of top-10 placements and four personal bests.
 
Raymond English highlighted the Cavs' action on Friday with a personal best in the 100m hurdles. A native of Greensboro, N.C., English needed just 15.28 seconds to finish fourth among a 17-runner field.
 
Gabe Suddreth represented Montreat in a pair of field events Friday afternoon and evening. The freshman ended 26th in the hammer throw with a mark of 35.58m. Suddreth also placed 28th in the shot put by hurling his implement 11.06m.
 
Montreat's other track event on Friday was the 100m dash. Drew Griswold ran for the Cavaliers, concluding 37th out of 47 sprinters with his 11.66-second time, a personal best.
 
The Cavs remained busy on Saturday with showings in six events. English picked up right where he left off with an eighth-place time in the 400m hurdles. Notching another personal best, English crossed the finish line in 1:00.95.
 
Drew Bryant set a career record as well, doing so in Saturday's high jump. The Candler, N.C. native topped his previous-best mark by 0.11m, clearing 1.81m to end eighth of 13 jumpers.
 
Four different Cavaliers ran Saturday afternoon in the 400m race. Jackson Mace-Maynard (14th; 51.55 seconds) led the squad in the 35-runner field. Jordan Pippin (16th; 51.85 seconds) wasn't far behind, while Senor Glenn (24th; 53.70 seconds) made his event debut. Mark Blalock rounded out the group in 26th with a time of 54.57 seconds.
 
Montreat accumulated two other top-30 track performances during day two's action. Sam Duncan placed 26th of 56 runners with a 2:03.98 time in the 800m. Meanwhile, Griswold concluded his 200m sprint in 23.86 seconds, good for 25th out of 32.
 
In the field, Suddreth also competed on Saturday, doing so in the discus. Out of 45 participants, Suddreth finished 29th with a top effort of 32.51m.

Montreat competes next at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which are slated for April 17-19 in Johnson City, Tenn.
