COLUMBIA, S.C.— The Montreat men's track & field team kicked off its outdoor season on Friday and Saturday with the John-Hunter Classic. The two-day affair, hosted by the Columbia International University Rams, saw a total of 26 Cavalier entries.
The Cavs found the most success in the shorter distances. In the 100m event,
Cameron Rice took third in the finals with a time of 10.89 seconds. With only five competitors in the finals for the event, other Cavs ran well in the preliminary heats.
Juan Arce and
Kaleel Stevenson finished in the top 15 with times of 11.08 and 11.18 seconds, respectively. Arce finished eighth while Stevenson placed 11
th.
Another event Rice placed inside the top five was the 200m race. With double the distance, Rice finished fourth while clocking a 22.30-second time. Stevenson and Arce finished 13
th and 14
th, respectively. Their times were just 0.05 seconds apart. Stevenson's effort was a new personal best.
The 110m hurdles saw another Montreat athlete place in the top five.
Raymond English finished in the five spot with a 20.71-second time.
Two Cavaliers finished in the top 15 of the 800m event.
Jackson Mace-Maynard placed third with a 1:56.10 in his event debut. The junior was joined by a freshman in
Senor Glenn. Glenn placed 15
th with a 2:04.32 in his event debut as well.
The field athletes also found top-five performances. In the triple jump,
Daishawn Barselou placed fourth with a 12.91m mark. Barselou also competed in the long jump. His effort was good enough for fifth with a leap of 6.76m. Behind him, Arce placed 10
th and
Lamont McNeill Jr. finished 12
th with bounds of 6.39m and 6.30m in that order.
Montreat's lone team event in the meet was the 4x400m relay. The Cavs finished second with a 3:22.54 time. The four Montreat competitors were Rice, Stevenson, Mace-Maynard and
Jordan Pippin.

Up next, the Cavaliers will open their doors and host their own meet, the Montreat College Open. The two-day event on March 21-22 will be held at Pulliam Stadium.
