Men’s track & field honors seniors, hosts Montreat College Open

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.— Montreat's men's track & field team competed in its lone home event of the campaign on Friday and Saturday. Pulliam Stadium played host to the 2025 Montreat College Open.

The Cavaliers submitted 30 entries to compete in 14 different events. They won two races outright and achieved one NAIA 'B' standard during the meet.

The Cavs found the most success in the longer races. In the 5000m, Rene Tamez set a new personal record with a first-place time of 15.31.95. Teammate Hunter Smathers finished in sixth and had a time of 16:18.83.

The Cavaliers competed in the mixed 4x400m relay, an event recently seen at the Olympics. Although it is not sanctioned by the NAIA, the event was run for the first time in Montreat history. The Cavs won the race with a time of 3:47.77. The history-setting team was made up of Senor Glenn, Adrianna Gullette, Mark Blalock and Emma Barnes.

The 1500m race also provided quality efforts from Montreat. Ethan Stamey and Ryan Stade finished second and third, respectively. The teammates clocked times of 3:58.70 and 3:59.31, in that order. Stamey's time was good enough for a new personal best.

Montreat sent two teams to compete in the 4x400m relay. The 'A' squad finished second with a time of 3:22.04. The 'B' team placed fourth with a clocked effort of 3:45.69.

The long jump saw three Cavs place in the top 10. Daishawn Barselou placed second with a leap of 6.69m. Fellow Cavalier Drew Bryant jumped a personal best of 6.66m in the event. Lamont McNeill Jr. also placed well with a sixth-position finish courtesy of a 6.13m bound.

Wyatt Wilson placed third in the 5000m race walk. He surpassed the NAIA 'B' standard with a third-place time of 26:20.91. Aubrey Adams set a new personal best with a time of 33:43.32. Adams finished sixth in the event.

Jordan Pippin competed in the first 400m hurdles event in his collegiate career. He finished in third place with a time of 59.10 seconds. Jackson Mace-Maynard also made an outdoor event debut, doing so in the 400m race. He finished sixth with a time of 50.10 seconds.

The 100m dash saw four Cavalier competitors. Cameron Rice was the only Cav in the top 10 with a fifth-place time of 11 seconds flat.

The 800m race saw four Cavalier runners in the event. Senor Glenn was the only Montreat athlete to place in the top 10. His ninth-place effort clocked in at 2:00.84.

Gabe Suddreth sneaked into the top 10 of the hammer throw with a ninth-place hurl of 36.05m. The mark is the first recorded measurement for Suddreth.
