SALEM, Va.— Spending the weekend at a pair of meets, the Montreat men's track & field team competed on Friday and Saturday at the Bast-Cregger Invitational, as well as on Saturday at the East Coast Elite Sprint & Field Meet. Split between Salem, Va. and Mill Spring, N.C., the Cavaliers' 38 entries combined for three event wins and 17 top-10 results across 17 events.
Montreat picked up two of its three wins on the track Friday evening. A trio of Cavs finished inside the top 10 during their 500m debuts.
Jackson Mace-Maynard won the event, beating out a field of 31 runners thanks to his time of 1:07.26.
Senor Glenn ended a few spots back in sixth (1:10.57), while
Eric Nichols crossed the finish line in seventh (1:10.63) just a fraction of a second later.
Meanwhile,
Ryan Stade took home the top spot in the 5000m. Stade notched the fastest time of the 24 participants at 15:44.85.
Rene Tamez (third; 15:51.16) wasn't far behind his teammate, and
Hunter Smathers placed eighth thanks to his personal-best effort of 16:09.22.
Continuing the Cavaliers' strong showings on Friday at the Bast-Cregger Invitational,
Ethan Stamey finished 10
th out of 37 competitors with a 2:43.86 in the 1000m.
Drew Bryant also placed 10
th across Friday and Saturday as he scored 3,290 points during the heptathlon.
Raymond English helped bridge the gap between Friday and Saturday as well with the 60m hurdles. Running in the prelims on Friday, English wrapped up his sprint in fourth with a career-best time of 8.69 seconds. The Greensboro, N.C. native then bested his time in the finals on Saturday, shaving an additional 0.04 seconds off to end runner-up in the event.
Montreat tallied four additional top-10 performances across three events at the Bast-Cregger Invitational on Saturday.
Nathan Stamey (sixth; 2:03.02) and
Ethan Stamey (ninth; 2:04.63) looked good among a 59-runner 800m field.
Kaleel Stevenson finished fifth out of 26 sprinters in his 300m debut, while Tamez contributed a seventh-place effort (4:35.96) out of 68 men in the one mile.
The Cavs also spent Saturday at a much smaller meet in Mill Spring, N.C.
Gabe Suddreth bagged a win in his weight throw debut behind a 12.00m toss. The Lenoir, N.C. native also ended fifth (11.68m) in the shot put.
Daishawn Barselou followed suit in the long jump, concluding fifth of eight thanks to a leap of 6.17m.

Montreat now turns its attention to the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, which are slated to take place on Feb. 10-11 at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
