DALLAS— Two members of Montreat College's track & field team traveled to Dallas for the NAIA Marathon Classic on Sunday. The event was run as a division in the BMW Dallas Marathon.
Carlyn Bobo ran on the women's side, and
Hunter Smathers competed in the men's division.
Bobo finished as the runner-up out of 50 participants in the marathon. She finished the 26.2-mile race in a time of 3:01:17, averaging 6:55 per mile. Bobo improved on her finish from last year's event, where she finished fifth in the NAIA Marathon Classic held in Sacramento, Calif. This also marks the second straight year a Montreat student-athlete finished runner-up in the race. Former Cavalier runner
Ali Ray finished as the runner-up in last year's rendition of the event, setting a school-record time of 2:48:25 in the marathon.
Smathers completed the race in 19
th out of 51 competitors, finishing with a time of 2:38:14 and averaging 6:02 per mile. He was just over two minutes short of the marathon school record held by Montreat's current Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine,
Ben Hall. Hall clocked a time of 2:35:57 in 2011.

The Cavaliers will rest for the remainder of the calendar year. The next event on the indoor slate is the Tryon Collegiate Opener scheduled for Jan. 16-17, in Mill Spring, N.C.
