WAGRAM, N.C.— Montreat's men's golf squad competed in the Fall Koala Invite, held at Deercroft Golf Club in Wagram, N.C., on Monday and Tuesday. Columbia College hosted the event. Out of 10 teams, the Cavaliers finished seventh. 58 players submitted scores in the two-day tournament.
Montreat's team score of 644 was 11 shots better than Columbia's B squad, which tied for eighth with 655 total strokes. USC Sumter's B team beat out the Cavs, shooting a 616 total, earning sixth place.
After the initial 18 holes, Montreat had a team score of 330. Leading the way for the Cavaliers was
Alex Murphy. His round of 78 saw two birdies and eight pars.
Cooper Crump ended his day with an 82, hitting 10 pars. Both
Colton Clevenger and
Luke Hood shot an 85 to open their tournament. Clevenger had a birdie and seven pars, while Hood's round was highlighted by three birdies and four pars.
Austin Lineberger finished day one with a 94 on his scorecard. He holed two birdies and four pars.
The Cavaliers shaved 16 strokes during the second round of the tournament, finishing their event with a 314 in the final round. Crump played the best round during the second day. His card of 75 featured two birdies and 11 pars. Murphy followed closely with a 77. The Monroe, N.C. native hit two birdies and 10 pars. Lineberger had the best turnaround. He cut out 14 strokes from his first day, shooting an 80 in round two. His scorecard saw two birdies and eight pars, including a stretch of six in a row. Clevenger shot an 82 with a birdie and eight pars.
Luke Hood carded an 87. He notched a birdie and five pars in his round.
Two Montreat golfers played in the tournament as individuals. Their scores did not count towards the team scores.
Shayn Tarolla and
Philip Brown played in both rounds. During day one, Tarolla shot an 82. His round featured two birdies and seven pars, while Brown carded an 84 with a birdie and five pars. In the second round, Tarolla shot a 92 while Brown was one stroke off with a 93. Neither golfer hit a birdie, but Tarolla sank three pars and Brown had four.
With his performance, Murphy finished in a tie for 25
th with two other golfers. Crump placed in a tie for 29
th, along with three other players. Clevenger placed 44
th. The next four Montreat golfers all finished consecutively. Hood tied for 50
th. Lineberger and Tarolla tied with each other for 52
nd. Brown rounded out the Cavaliers with a 54
th place finish.

Montreat's last event of the fall slate is the AAC Fall Preview on Oct. 27-28. The three-round tournament will be held at the Barnsley Resort in Adairsville, Ga.
