MONTGOMERY, Ala.— The Montreat women's wrestling team wrapped up its weekend in Alabama on Saturday with the Red Lady Open at Huntingdon College. Sending six athletes to compete across five weight classes, the Cavaliers ultimately placed eighth among 10 scoring programs.
Uriah Peters-Gutierrez recorded half of the Cavs' wins on Saturday thanks to her 2-2 showing. The Goose Creek, S.C. native began her run in the 145-lb bracket with a defeat at the hands of the NAIA's No. 11-ranked wrestler. Peters-Gutierrez responded well, however, snagging back-to-back wins via pin in the consolation rounds. The freshman eventually saw her day come to a close following a 10-0 tech fall.
Annastasia Skoda and
Audrey Gribble each went 1-2 in their respective weight classes. Wrestling at 131, Skoda started her day with a pin in 4:54 before dropping consecutive bouts via tech fall. Meanwhile, Gribble was pinned by the 20
th-ranked wrestler at 180 prior to claiming a 3-1 decision victory in her initial consolation matchup.
