WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— The Montreat men's track & field team resumed its indoor campaign on Saturday after a month-plus off for the holiday season. Picking up where it left off, the Cavaliers were back in action at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., this time for the Mondo College Invitational. With 22 entries across 11 events, the Cavs grabbed one national standard and 10 top-15 placements.
It didn't take long for Montreat to secure a national mark. Beginning the day with the 3000m race walk, senior
Wyatt Wilson achieved the NAIA "B" standard thanks to his 15:35.86 time. Wilson ended second of three participants in the event.
The Cavaliers also finished as runners-up in the 4x400m relay.
Cameron Rice,
Jordan Pippin,
Kaleel Stevenson and
Jackson Mace-Maynard combined for a 3:30.97 performance, second-fastest among the 14 teams competing. Representing Montreat as well,
Eric Nichols,
Senor Glenn,
Drew Griswold and
Mark Blalock placed 11
th with a time of 3:40.93.
Mace-Maynard also shined in the 600m Saturday afternoon. Leading a pack of four Cavs to top-15 finishes, Mace-Maynard wrapped up his race in 1:25.01, good for fourth out of 32 runners. Pippin concluded a few spots back in ninth with his 1:28.34 showing, while Glenn (14
th; 1:29.87) and Blalock (15
th; 1:30.11) rounded out the group.
Over in the field events,
Drew Bryant notched a 10
th-place finish among a field of 42 jumpers. Bryant bounded his way to a 6.18m mark to earn the result.
Montreat's final two top-15 efforts occurred in a pair of prelims on the track. Out of 26 competitors in the 60m hurdles,
Raymond English narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals with a ninth-place time of 8.84 seconds. Meanwhile, Rice ended 14
th of 29 sprinters in the 60m prelims (7.11 seconds).

Montreat participates next at the Brant Tolsma Invitational, which is slated for Jan. 23-25 at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
