LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.— The Montreat men's tennis team closed out its 2024 fall slate last weekend when it competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NAIA South Regional Championships from Sept. 19-22. Featuring a mix of singles and doubles play at Georgia Gwinnett College, the Cavaliers tallied six wins during the tournament.
The Cavs faced a tough task competing in a region that included No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett, No. 3 Middle Georgia State, No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan and (RV) SCAD Atlanta.
Bruno-Casimir Gehlhaar picked up Montreat's lone win in the singles championship bracket when he topped a MGSU athlete, 6-1, 6-3. The Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany native later lost in the round of 16 to conclude his tournament run.

Ibai Lopez each went 2-2 in singles play. After falling to the second-seeded challenger in the round of 32, Garcia bounced back with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the consolation bracket's round of 16. Garcia also won a tightly-contested consolation quarterfinal clash, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6 [10-5]. Meanwhile, Lopez fell in the round of 64 but rebounded with a pair of consolation wins via 6-0, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-4 finals. Both student-athletes eventually withdrew from the consolation semifinals.
Youssef Idboufous captured Montreat's other win over the weekend in the consolation round of 16 when his opponent had to withdraw due to injury.
The Cavaliers' three doubles pairings each suffered defeat in their only match.

The Montreat men's tennis program now turns its attention toward preparing for the team portion of its competition schedule, which is slated to start this upcoming spring.
