WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— The Montreat men's track & field team resumed its indoor season-opening week on Saturday with a trip down Interstate 40 to the Camel City for the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-off at JDL Fast Track. Totaling 23 entries across nine events, the Cavaliers registered one national standard and eight top-10 placements.
Ethan Stamey and
Nathan Stamey delivered a pair of top-10 times across the 3000m and the one mile. In the longer event,
Ethan Stamey utilized his personal-best time of 8:30.65 to finish sixth out of 48 athletes and meet the NAIA "B" standard.
Nathan Stamey ended one spot back of his twin brother thanks to his 8:35.81 showing.
Racing in the 51-runner one mile field,
Ethan Stamey just beat out his sibling with another career-best mark.
Ethan Stamey concluded the one mile in seventh (4:20.04), while
Nathan Stamey placed 10
th with a 4:27.06 time.
A pair of Cavs grabbed top-10 times in the 800m on Saturday.
Lane Hargrove made his indoor 800m debut, but he looked like a veteran on the track. Ending fourth of 18 participants, Hargrove needed just 2:01.71 to wrap up his race. Meanwhile,
Matthew Morin notched the seventh-fastest time (2:03.78) in the event.
Montreat totaled two additional top-10 performances on the track.
Mark Blalock,
Darrian Bonilla,
Jordan Pippin and
Cameron Rice combined for a sixth-place time of 3:35.15 in the 4x400m relay.
Raymond English nearly qualified for the 60m hurdles final in his debut, placing ninth with an 8.78-second prelim race.

Montreat returns to JDL Fast Track for its next competition, the Mondo College Invitational, on Jan. 18 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
