JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.— The Montreat men's golf team competed at the East Tennessee Collegiate, hosted by fellow Appalachian Athletic Conference member Milligan University, Monday and Tuesday. Following a round of 300 on the first day of action and a 305 on day two, the Cavaliers placed fourth of 10 participating squads.
Two teammates led the charge through 18 holes as
Aaron Elmore and
Hunter Vowell each collected four birdies en route to even par 72s. Both golfers sat tied for seventh place individually after the first round.
Atley Gabriel used consistency to card a 75 thanks to 13 pars and a birdie, sitting tied for 18
th following Monday's action.
Jackson Tedder rounded out the scoring for the Cavaliers with an 81, while
Colton Clevenger shot just one stroke worse (82) over the initial 18 holes as Montreat loomed only two back from fourth-position University of Pikeville.
On Tuesday, Vowell put together another impressive round due to his three birdies. The freshman from Gastonia, N.C. turned in a 73 to tie for ninth individually out of 51 participants. Elmore also notched a trio of holes under par to end with a 75, good enough to tie for 12
th. Gabriel received the next highest placement of the Cavaliers following his final round of 79. The first-year collegiate golfer concluded 26
th after his team-best four birdies on the last 18. Tedder tied for 33
rd thanks to his second round of 78, while Clevenger placed 45
th with an 86.
