ATLANTA— The Montreat men's tennis team wrapped up the 2023 regular season Monday afternoon as the squad made quick work of a shorthanded SCAD Atlanta Bees team, 5-2. With the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory in Atlanta, the Cavaliers concluded the regular season with a 6-5 record overall and a 6-4 record in AAC play.
SCAD Atlanta (4-13, 4-6 AAC) snagged a 6-3 victory on the No. 2 doubles court, but the Cavs claimed the team point and a 1-0 lead thanks to a victory at No. 1 and a forfeit at No. 3. On the top court,
Luigi Moretti and
Anouar Braham teamed up for a 6-3 win over SCAD's top doubles pairing.
The Bees battled in singles action and garnered a pair of points as they notched wins on the top two courts; however, Montreat kept the hosts off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Elisey Kalashnikov wasted no time with his 6-2, 6-0 straight-sets triumph at No. 3, and
Jovan Slijepcevic followed Kalashnikov's lead at No. 4 with a 7-5, 6-0 victory.
With three points already on the board, the Cavs seized their 5-2 team triumph behind a pair of forfeits on the final two singles courts.
With the regular season now in the rearview mirror, the Montreat men's tennis team looks to make a run in AAC Tournament, which is slated for Thursday through Saturday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. As the No. 4 seed, the Cavaliers are set to square off against the fifth-seeded Milligan University Buffaloes on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
