EMORY, Va.— Two athletes from the Montreat women's wrestling team competed at the Wasps Open hosted by Emory & Henry College on Friday. Both wrestlers collected multiple victories en route to outstanding performances at the open, including one first-place result.
After receiving a bye into the quarterfinal round,
Trinity Howard earned a pin in her first bout at 123. The sophomore then notched a 12-2 tech fall to advance to the first-place match where Howard tallied a 13-2 tech fall as she won the weight class over six other participants. The triumph marked Howard's second bracket victory of the season and third of her career.
At 130,
Charlotte Wheeler got her day started with a 13-3 tech fall before moving on to the semifinals with a pin in just 1:29. Though the Gainesville, Ga. native fell to the No. 3-ranked NCAA wrestler in the semifinal bout and dropped the third-place match, Wheeler claimed fourth position out of 10 athletes in her weight class with her 2-2 record.
