MARSHALL, Mo.— The Montreat women's wrestling team sent a pair of athletes to Missouri for one of the largest women's wrestling tournaments in the country, the Missouri Valley Open, on Friday and Saturday.
Competing in the 155-lb bracket,
Nicole Lewis notched a pair of victories. Lewis began the tournament with an 8-2 decision victory over an opponent from Iowa Central Community College. Following a loss that moved her to the consolation bracket, Lewis bounced back with a 13-2 tech fall triumph against a wrestler from Grand View University. Lewis' run then ended via fall in the third consolation round to the No. 19-ranked wrestler in the NAIA.
Trinity Howard also participated at the open. Facing stout competition in the 123-lb bracket, Howard, the 14
th-ranked wrestler in her weight class, dropped matches to athletes from the University of Iowa and Iowa Central.

Women's wrestling now travels to Williamsburg, Ky. for the Patriot Duals, hosted by University of the Cumberlands, on Dec. 1 and 2.
