BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C.— In the first of two home meets this season, the Montreat men's track & field team collected event wins and led the competition in a variety of ways. Not only did the Cavs notch individual triumphs, but the team also added school records and national qualifying standards to the mix.
Dylan Branch kicked things off for the Cavaliers on Friday with a second-place result in the 1,500m. Branch ran 4:01.50 in the event to notch his runner-up placement.
William Hamilton followed Branch's lead with a runner-up result of his own in the 5,000m. In the 5k, Hamilton crossed the finish line with a time of 15:18.16.
Dustin Blevins captained the Montreat athletes in the field on Friday, registering a national standard mark in the long jump. Blevins leapt to an NAIA "A" standard 7.26m to win the event before other Cavs performed admirably in their events.
Brady Roth set the school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.90m to earn a third-place finish, while
Joel Simpson placed fifth in the javelin thanks to a personal-best throw of 46.15m.
Micah Matheson concluded in second in the pole vault after clearing 4.40m, and
Edward McClellan placed fifth (3.95m).
Wyatt Wilson broke the school record in the racewalk for the second consecutive week, completing his event and winning the men's race with a time of 26:52.00.
Aden Greene placed third in the event (33:42.50). The 4x800m relay team consisting of
Ruchen Blaauw, Branch,
Caleb Silver and
Nathan Stamey continued the event wins for the Cavaliers. The foursome completed their legs in 7:51.91, besting the school record by nearly 20 seconds and finishing first.
Hank Yelton claimed yet another event victory for the Cavs, crossing the line first in the 400m hurdles. Yelton ended the race with a time of 55.81. In the 110m hurdles, the Morganton, N.C. native placed fifth with a time of 15.75 seconds.
Blevins won his second field event of the meet on Saturday, capturing a first-place effort in the triple jump. The King, N.C. native jumped a "B" standard 14.40m to defeat the rest of the competition.
JaJa Davis improved on his "A" standard in the shot put to place fourth. With his second throw, the senior launched his implement 16.16m in the event.
Maxwell White cleared 1.85m in the high jump to place fourth and round out the Montreat athletes with top-five results at the meet.

Men's track & field now travels to Central, S.C. where the team will compete at Southern Wesleyan University in the Gotta Run Invite on Friday and Saturday.
