WALESKA, Ga.— The Montreat men's tennis team earned another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory Thursday evening, taking down the Reinhardt University Eagles in Georgia by a score of 4-3. With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 5-6 overall on the season and remained perfect in AAC competition (2-0).
In a tightly contested matchup, the doubles point proved valuable. Though the Cavaliers dropped the top pairing,
Denilson Martinez and
Marcos Castares notched a victory over their opposition at No. 3 before
Ryan Little and
Anouar Braham closed out the 1-0 lead with a close 7-6 win.
The Cavs continued strong in singles play, picking up a pair of straight-sets triumphs at No. 2 and No. 5. Martinez collected a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the second spot, while Castares captured a 6-3, 7-5 win to give Montreat a 3-0 advantage.
The Cavaliers needed a three-set win to claim victory. Despite dropping three of the four remaining matches, Montreat got its clinching point from Moretti, who stormed back with a 7-5 third-set win to give the Cavs the match. The 45
th-ranked player in the country rebounded after winning the first 6-2 and falling 6-4 in the second.
Men's tennis will attempt to remain undefeated in AAC play as the team travels to No. 3 Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday. First serve of doubles is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
