WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— The Montreat men's and women's track & field programs continued their notable indoor seasons on Sunday at the JDL Flat is Fast Invitational. Montreat had four marks best school records, tallied 12 top-10 finishes and recorded a pair of NAIA "B" standard times over the weekend.
The women's team utilized strong performances to break several school marks and make splashes nationally.
Dylan Garcia raced to an NAIA "B" standard in the one mile, winning the event with a time of 5:10.82.
Yessenia Castellanos and
Emily Standifer each ran faster than the school record in the 800m; however, Castellanos (2:23.29) edged Standifer (2:26.09) for second place by just under three seconds to hold the time.
The trio of athletes then joined
Kilia Hasty to break the second school record, this time in the 4x400m relay. Hasty, Castellanos, Standifer and Garcia combined to run fourth in the event, besting the school record by 15 ticks and clocking in at 4:16.59.
In the field,
Makayla Anderson notched the final school mark of the day, launching her effort in the weight throw 10.45m to finish 17
th.
On the men's side,
Ethan Stamey produced a NAIA standard time in the 3,000m. Stamey raced to a "B" standard 8:42.39 to end second in the event, while fellow freshman
William Hamilton concluded the race in sixth (9:02.22).
Caleb Silver and
Dylan Branch registered top-5 results in their track events as the former earned third in the 800m (1:58.34) and the latter rounded out the top-10 track times with a third-place finish in the 1,000m (2:36.36).
The men's team locked in four top-10 marks in the field in addition to the four on the track.
Micah Matheson led the way with a third-place result in the pole vault competition after clearing 4.50m.
Dustin Blevins tallied the final top-5 result of the day, leaping to 6.95m in the long jump.
Gabe Ray and
Jonathan Pehot completed the 12 top-10 results as the duo finished back-to-back in the triple jump. Ray landed ninth with a 13.02m jump, while Pehot claimed 10
th place following his 12.71m effort.

Track & field will now send athletes to the Appalachian Indoor Split Meet hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. on Friday. Events are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
