WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— The Montreat men's and women's track & field teams started the spring portion of their indoor seasons by participating in the Mondo College Invitational on Saturday. Competing against athletes from all collegiate levels, the Cavaliers produced event wins and records throughout the day.
On the women's side, the 4x800m relay team notched a victory with a school-record time of 10:19.15. Not only did the foursome of
Yessenia Castellanos,
Catherine Slack,
Kilia Hasty and
Emily Standifer collect a win for their team, but several young collegians performed admirably, as well.
Dylan Garcia finished third in the 1,000m with a Montreat-record time (3:06.34), while Castellanos followed her teammate in sixth (3:14.30).
Standifer tallied another top-10 result, this time in the 600m run, later in the meet. The freshman concluded the race in seventh after recording a 1:45.14.
Ethan Stamey led the way for the Cavaliers on the men's side of the competition, registering a pair of top-5 results. In the one-mile run, Stamey bested the meet record and stopped his clock at 4:27.55 to end fourth in the event. The freshman also finished fourth in the 3,000m run, concluding in 8:48.55. Stamey recorded the best times by NAIA runners in those events, while
William Hamilton crossed 10
th as the next NAIA finisher in the 3k (9:06.75).
Caleb Silver recorded the best place finish of any men's athlete for Montreat, running third in the 1,000m event. Silver closed his time at 2:37.87, while
Nathan Stamey (2:46.51) ended eighth.
Wyatt Wilson crossed eighth in the 3k race walk with a time of 17:59.97, a school record in the event.
Newcomer
Jordan Carlie recorded the sixth-fastest 200m dash (23.31) overall to complete the Cavaliers top-10 track performances in finals.
In field events,
Micah Matheson continued Montreat's high-quality results with a fourth-place height in the pole vault. Matheson cleared 4.60m to finish in the top five.
Jonathan Pehot registered the other top-10 finish in the field, leaping to a 6.35m jump in the long jump to end 10
th.

The track & field teams continue their indoor seasons with the Finn Pincus Invitational in Salem, Va. next week. The meet is slated to take place on Jan. 21 and 22.
