WALESKA, GA - On Saturday, February 20th, the Montreat College tennis programs traveled to Reinhardt University for their first conference match-up of 2016, where both teams fell 9-0 to the Eagles.
The Lady Cavalier's fell short in each doubles and singles match, with no. 2 doubles duo of Taylor Lunsford (JR/Mooresville, NC) and Hayley Taylor (FR/Marion, NC) taking the only game during doubles play, ultimately losing 8-1. No.1 and no.3 doubles both lost 8-0.
During singles play, the ladies were out-matched, falling 6-0, 6-0 at each line except no.5 singles where Lunsford lost 6-0,6-1.
The Cavaliers fell 8-0 at each line in doubles play. Aside from no.1 and no.2 singles losing 6-0,6-0, the last four singles lines were able to closely compete with their opponents. At no.3 singles, Lorward Choi (FR/Torrance, CA) fell to Anton Zimin 6-2,6-4, while at no.4 singles, Leo Lucero fell 7-6(5), 6-3. At line 5 singles, Tanner Wilhoit (JR/Denton, NC) lost by one break of serve in each set, fall 6-3,6-3 and Henrique Cardoso (FR/Lisbon, Portugal) fell short Hanson, 6-4,6-2.
"I am very proud of how my players fought against Reinhardt University," Coach Cobb said. "We knew going into this match that it was going to be a tough one. All I asked is that the players leave it all out on the court and they did."
The teams will be back in action on Saturday, February 27th when they travel to face Averett with a 1pm start time.
