Cavs 54th in winter update of LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings

CLEVELAND — The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) shared an update regarding the 2025-26 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings on Tuesday after the winter sports championships season wrapped up late last month. In the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) edition of the standings, the Montreat College athletic department begins the month of April in 54th out of 172 scoring institutions.

Ranked second-best among Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) full-time members, the Cavaliers currently sit with 251.50 points, 143.50 of which were scored during the winter sports championships season. The men's indoor track & field team racked up 70.5 points thanks to its program-best eight-place finish at the 2026 NAIA Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships. Meanwhile, the Cavs contributed 37 points on the women's side for a 36th-place showing at the same national meet. The men's wrestling squad also secured its top finish as a program at the 2026 NAIA Men's Wrestling Championships, adding 36 points to the athletic department's tally by placing 38th.

The Montreat College men's and women's cross country teams opened the Cavaliers' scoring account for 2025-26, combining for 108 points during the fall sports championships season.

Known as the crowning achievement in collegiate athletics, the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup honors institutions maintaining broad-based departments that attain national success in both men's and women's sports. The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup ranks the top athletic department in the country at each level of competition—NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III and NAIA—based on postseason accomplishments.

To earn points in the standings, an institution must have teams competing at national championship events or tournaments. Not only do appearances on the national stage garner attention, but the level of performance while at national events also contributes to the number of points gained in the standings.
