Cavaliers enjoy new venue, date for 12th annual Bob Watt Memorial Golf Tournament

CANTON, N.C. — Moving its date from early June to a picturesque autumn day in mid-October, the Montreat College Athletics Department hosted its 12th annual Bob Watt Memorial Golf Tournament yesterday. Overall, 21 teams featuring a total of 84 golfers played 18 holes at Springdale Golf Course in Canton, N.C. Thanks to the generosity of both the tournament's participants and sponsors, the Cavaliers were able to raise a near-record amount for the department.

Aramark and Civil Design Concepts were the main presenting sponsors of the 12th annual Bob Watt Memorial Golf Tournament. The Keith Corporation and Barringer Construction served as gold-level sponsors of the event, while Atlantic Building Solutions, Vannoy Construction, the Watt family, Millennium Investment and Retirement Advisors and the Hampton Inn Black Mountain took on silver-level sponsor status. Altogether, roughly 40 organizations partnered with Montreat College in putting on this year's tournament.

"It was another successful Bob Watt Memorial Golf Tournament," said Garrett Jones, Director of Athletics at Montreat College. "The beauty of Western North Carolina was on full display, providing the perfect backdrop for a great day of golf and fellowship. We are incredibly grateful to all our partners, supporters and friends of the college who participated in this year's event."

Named in honor of Montreat College Athletics Hall of Fame inductee and long-time board of trustees member Robert Watt, who passed away in 2011, the annual event serves as the key fundraiser that champions the mission of Montreat College's Christ-centered athletics programs. Bob Watt Jr. and Josh Watt both participated in this year's tournament, reminding attendees of the legacy left behind by their father and his love for Montreat College and Cavalier Athletics.

Shooting a 22-under-par 50, Civil Design Concepts Team 2 claimed first place among the 21-team field.

"The tournament was created to bring friends of the college together to support our student-athlete experience at Montreat," Jones noted. "Thanks to everyone's generosity and participation, this year's event was another tremendous success. Thank you for your continued support of Montreat College and our student-athletes. We appreciate each of you and look forward to seeing you again next year."
