DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Montreat College competitive cheer team spent Friday and Saturday in Daytona Beach, Fla. to participate in the annual National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals event. Going up against seven other programs in the Intermediate All Girl NAIA division, the Cavaliers notched an eighth-place finish as a squad.
After inclement weather pushed the original start date from Thursday, the Cavs finally got their routine underway on Friday morning with the preliminary round. Montreat registered a raw score of 63.0333, as well as a performance score of 69.287, while suffering 0.75 points in deductions. Ultimately, the Cavaliers' event score came out to 17.3218, which ranked eighth out of eight programs.
The Intermediate All Girl NAIA finals took place on Saturday, and Montreat landed in eighth once again. The Cavs lost 0.75 points due to deductions, but their raw score and performance score came in at 62.7667 and 68.9907, respectively. In the end, the Cavaliers recorded a 69.0648 event score for their final tally. Hope International University won the national title behind a 93.287 event score.

With NCA College Nationals in the rearview mirror, the Montreat College competitive cheer team now enters the offseason with its sights set on building, growing and further enhancing its program ahead of next year.
