DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— The Montreat College cheer and dance teams traveled down to Daytona Beach, Fla. on Thursday and Friday for the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate National Championships. Not only did the Cavaliers deliver several strong performances, but the cheer squad also captured their best finish at nationals with a third-place showing.

Ashley Eze. "Our cheer and dance teams brought energy, talent and team spirit to the national stage, and we couldn't be prouder of their hard work and accomplishments."
On Thursday, the cheer team participated in the Intermediate All Girl NAIA prelims. Out of 90 total points, Montreat racked up a raw score of 71.4667. The Cavs suffered two points in deductions, and their event score totaled 19.3519, good for third of five programs. Montreat automatically advanced to Friday's Intermediate All Girl NAIA finals.
Dance also took to stage late Thursday morning. Taking on a field of five programs in the Jazz NAIA prelims, the Cavaliers avoided any deductions as they registered a raw score of 55.16. Overall, Montreat's event score proved to be 78.8, fifth-most among the competitors. As a result, the Cavs did not qualify for Friday's finals.
"Dance brought the energy, impressing the judges and audience with their passion," Eze noted. "Their performance was both powerful and graceful."
Friday featured the Intermediate All Girl NAIA finals where the Cavaliers repeated their third-place finish from day one. Montreat tallied a raw score of 71.3667 while trimming down its deductions to 1.5. Ultimately, the Cavs' event score of 77.6991 secured the podium finish.
"Cheer delivered an outstanding performance that earned a third-place finish in its division," Eze added. "The routine proved that all the hard work and dedication paid off."
