DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— The Montreat cheer and dance teams participated in their only events of the season as the Cavaliers traveled to Florida on Thursday and Friday for the 2024 NCA and NDA College Nationals.
On Thursday, the cheer team competed in the Intermediate All Girl NAIA prelims against four other squads. Following a raw score of 71.0667 out of 90 and .75 in deductions, the Cavaliers ended fourth with an event score of 78.21 points. The dance team began its week with the Jazz NAIA prelims on Thursday. Out of five schools, the Cavs utilized a 57.84 raw score out of 70, which translated to an 82.6286 event score, to finish fifth.
The cheer team went on to compete in the finals on Friday, where it sealed its placement. Montreat increased its score to 78.8032, with a raw score of 72 and one point in deductions, maintaining fourth position.
"Overall, I'm very proud of both the cheer and dance teams. This was our first time competing at the NCA and NDA College Nationals and they did amazing," mentioned head coach
Ashley Eze. "The girls and myself are ready to continue to work hard for next year and come back stronger. I want to give a special thanks to the families of the athletes, fans and Montreat College for their support this season."
